阎锡山这位中国现代历史舞台上显赫且特殊的人物,在本世纪前半期的风风雨雨中,曾对山西的经济和历史起到了不可估量的作用,特别是他在修筑同蒲铁路中的胆识,令人称道。 阎锡山纵观山西经济的发展认识到,铁路是现代中国最重要的政治、经济和战争的工具。他认为:“交通是现代经济发展的枢纽。”要想与省内外沟通,发展山西经济,必须修一条贯通山西南北的主干铁路,并辅以若干支线。1927年5月,阎锡山聘请德国工程师穆兰为测量队长,筹备测量工作,制订修路计划。次年8月,山西省议会议决:由建设厅筹办同蒲路,争取在1929
