The novel tells the story of a retired German fisher in the late 1990s and a Chinese artist Lu Chang-nan. Fisher is a retired judge in Munich, Germany, having a child’s experience of living with his parents in China. Because of the impressive Chinese painting in memory, he came to Lushan, where he was born, and met Lu Mannan, a man of abjection. Perhaps in order to round her dream of making a meaningful event after retirement, it may be that his tragedy touched Lu Changnan and shocked him. Fisher decided to try his best to help Lu Changnan to change his destiny.
