This group of painters share a common belief: the pursuit of the spirit of art. They are more interested in the invisible inner spirit than in the visible outer world, hoping to combine this inner spirit with visible forms and colors in an abstract lyrical way, to integrate art with profound spiritual content. Kandinsky was very familiar with the various currents of thought in Europe and was very interested in philosophy, religion, poetry and music. He tried to unite reason with irrationality through art. His concern is how to create a non-specific painting that is not a simple pattern or decoration. In order to create an independent and abstract painting language, he explores the common spiritual foundation of various arts, tests the equivalent of sound and color, and hopes to achieve a synaesthetic form that has both physiological and psychological functions. His book On the Spirit in Art and the thesis On the Problem of Formality have become the important documents of abstract art. His life has far-reaching influence on the art of the 20th century.
