This paper discusses a self-consistent computer-aided orthogonal field-amplifier electron gun analysis program that can be used to solve orthogonal “long” guns with arbitrary electrode shapes that take into account space charge effects characteristic. The analysis of the Kino “long” gun is presented, showing excellent agreement between the theoretical parameters of the gun and the results obtained using computer analysis. Taking the design program as an example, the design results of the transition zone between the orthogonal field amplifier electron gun and the accelerating electrode with anodic potential are introduced. The validity of the model is further demonstrated by the preliminary results of some noise calculations performed by simulating the noise characteristics of the cathode surface.
