In the fifteenth century, Italy, people found a large number of remains of ancient sculptures, basically marble fragments. Out of fascination with the marble, appreciation of the carving process, fascination with the vivid expression of human sculptures, the aristocrats at the time were keen to collect these fragments and attempt to spell and rebuild these broken sculptures. But barely noticeable any remnants of color, they do not even go to explore painting and they appreciate the impeccable surface of white marble. In the early 19th century, architects surveyed the painted remnants of ancient temples in Sicily, and the subsequent reconstruction of paintings painted by some famous Greek temples (such as the Parthenon) led to heated discussions throughout Europe. However, the intense doubts about the application of painting to these sculptures continued into the 1880s until the excavation of the Acropolis was confirmed by the fact that the ancient marble sculpture was painted. When unearthed, many broken pieces of sculptures remain vivid painted, but usually in a few hours after the excavated due to dry and peeled off, and only vague traces of painted traces, as well as staff description and watercolor models. Today, open modern books on ancient sculpture, you will find a large number of color photographs, but always show white marble surface. Much has been said about the significance of sculpture in terms of craft, function, and historical development, but it is hard to get a complete example of ancient sculpture. It is not only the sculptures of the Acropolis which have been painted, but have been extensively painted during this period of reconstruction. This work is the use of ancient pigments and molds, as complete reconstruction of an ancient sculpture.
