Objective To investigate the role and significance of CD44v6 and C-myc in the occurrence and development of cervical squamous cell carcinoma and their relationship. Methods The expression of CD44v6 and C-myc were detected by tissue microarray and immunohistochemistry in 30 cases of normal cervical tissue and 60 cases of cervical squamous cell carcinoma. Results The expression of CD44v6 in stage Ⅰ ~ Ⅱ cervical squamous cell carcinoma was related to the pathological grade, the depth of cervical muscle layer and the lymph node metastasis, but not to the age and clinical stage. The expression of C-myc was correlated with the clinical stage, the depth of myometrial involvement and lymph node metastasis, but not with age and pathological grade. Conclusions The expressions of CD44v6 and C-myc in cervical squamous cell carcinoma can be used as prognostic indicators. Both of them have synergistic effects. The combined detection of CD44v6 and C-myc can be helpful to predict the invasion, metastasis and prognosis of cervical cancer.
