The catalytic hydrogenation of magnesium underatmospheric pressure has been optimized so that the reaction canbe completed within seven hours. The resulted magnesiumhydride is in the form of superfine powder with an averageprimary particle size of 15 nm.This magnesium hydride exhibitshigher dehydrogenation/hydrogenation rates than that obtainedunder pressure with the same catalyst system.
