2015年是大批华工参与建设北美中央太平洋铁路150周年。这些北美铁路道钉华工,作为中国第一代大规模远涉重洋的农民工,为美国近代化做出了不菲贡献,然而,他们是沉默的弱势群体,因没有话语权而不被重视,他们的贡献也渐次被人淡忘了。著名史学家黄安年先生为此特别编著了《道钉,不再沉默:建设北美铁路的华工》一书,图文并茂,详细介绍了“道钉”的丰功伟绩和奉献精神,先后由几家出版社出版了中文版、英文版、中文繁体增订版。作者认为,道钉的历史是中美人民友好交往、协同发展的难得教材,可以给中关人民多方面的启迪和教育,因此建议中学历史教学也给予足够关注。本刊特请黄先生撰成这篇文章,介绍书中主要内容以飨读者朋友,同时也对这些有着不平凡历史经历的先人们,表达我们深切的缅怀之情。
