VEGF is a hypoxia-induced vascular growth-related peptide that is abundantly expressed in the brain. VEGF has a wide range of biological effects such as neurotrophic, neuroprotective, anti-apoptotic, cell proliferation, and enhancement of capillary osmotic pressure. Recent studies have found that VEGF is associated with a variety of central nervous system diseases, such as cerebral ischemic disease, Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease. In-depth study of the intrinsic relationship between VEGF and central nervous system diseases, research and development of related drugs, will become the focus of the treatment of central nervous system diseases and new ideas.
