隐喻并非纯粹是一种语言现象和修辞手段,更不是哲学和科学的大敌,而是一种思维和认知工具。隐喻在经济和科学等领域被普遍应用。文章以Lakoff对词义扩展的隐喻认知理据的阐释为理论依据,把经贸英语词汇的隐喻性用法按词性分为名词隐喻,动词隐喻,形容词隐喻和副词隐喻,通过典型的经贸英语词汇实例,阐释英语词汇的隐喻性词义扩展在经贸英语中的应用。这些经隐喻化而约定俗成的词汇有助于人们对经济原理和运作的认知和理解,这不仅体现出隐喻的认知功能,还体现出隐喻强烈的社会功能。
Metaphor is not purely a linguistic phenomenon and rhetorical device, nor is it the enemy of philosophy and science, but a thinking and cognitive tool. Metaphor is widely used in economic and scientific fields. Based on the explanation of metaphorical cognitive motivation of lexical expansion, Lakoff classifies the metaphorical usage of business English vocabulary into three categories: noun metaphor, verb metaphor, adjective metaphor and adverb metaphor according to the part of speech, Metaphorical Meaning Expansion of English Vocabulary in Business English. These metaphorical and conventional terms help people to understand and understand the principles and operation of economy. They not only reflect the cognitive function of metaphor, but also reflect the strong metaphorical social function.
