It is easy to confuse “individual” (τóδετι) with “individual thing” (τàκαθ’εκαστα), so as to replace the discussion of the essence of the individual with the exploration of individual things. This article argues that individual and individual things are two concepts that must be strictly distinguished. The essence of an individual is the essence of a thing different from other things, the basis of the form. The individual things are sensible, occasional, with the existence of the material. Without the former, the latter can not exist as a definite thing, but without the latter, the former can not be presented as a concrete thing.
