The overweight syndrome combined immunodeficiency mice (BCB-17scid-beige) is a new line of mice derived from the introduction of the natural killer (NK) deficient gene (bg gene) into severe combined immunodeficiency mice (CB-17scid) To determine the basic cellular immune characteristics of this mouse, we examined the function of the murine T, NK and lymphokine activated killer (LAK) cells and the effect of poly IC on NK cell activity. The mouse spleen lymphocytes can not proliferate in response to the stimulation of T cell mitogen concanavalin (ConA). Compared with normal control mice, the difference was significant (P <0.01). The activity of NK cells of these mice (killing activity to YAC-1 cells) was significantly lower than that of the parental scid mice and normal mice (P <0.01). NK cells activity was not observed Increase, while the parental scid mice are significantly increased. After stimulated by interleukin-2, the activity of LAK cells (killing activity of P815 cells) was significantly lower than that of the parental scid mice and normal mice (P <0.01). The above results indicate that B, C, B-17scid-beige mice are a combination of T, NK and LAK cells with immunodeficient mice whose B cell function is also defective (see details in this article). The above defect is the result of the interaction between the scid gene and the bg gene. The animal provides a more ideal recipient mouse for establishing a human immunodeficiency animal model and provides a new research tool for basic immunological research .
