In this paper, a new sensitive method based on solid phase spectrophotometry was developed for the determination of trace uranium (Ⅵ) in water samples. Uranium was adsorbed from the thiocyanate solution using a QAE-Sephadex anion exchanger and the absorbance of the exchanger was measured at 300 nm. The sensitivity of this method is about 30 times that of solution spectrophotometry. The absorption spectra of various metals in the anion exchanger phase are presented, and the pertinent perturbations are discussed, providing a procedure for the separation of uranium from the accompanying elements by cation exchange before spectrometric determination of uranium.
