凡物皆是一是,亦即,凡物皆是其所是。是因而乃普遍而根本之事件。但此事件却又从根本上即需要主体之参与:主体让是显示自身,亦即,让是去是其所是。在这一意义上,主体乃服务于是者,而非与是相对者。作为诸是之一是,主体被吸收到“至大无外”的是之中。作为与显示自身之是不同者,主体则什么都不是。果真如此,超越就是虚伪的诺言或美丽的神话。但主体首先乃是要对他者做出应承者:“在这儿呢,我。”而“应承”就是“应”而“承”之:回应他者就是承担他者。当我如此慌不择言地回应他者之时,神或上帝就首次在人的语言中出现了,尽管其名尚未被说出。作为需要对他者做出应承者,亦即,需要为他者负责者,主体在那超出了是之是其所是之处。主体或“我的出现方式就是出庭。我置自己于一不可推卸的传唤所加之于我的被动性之中”。而在主体受到的绝对传唤之中,无限一此并非某一无限的存在者——就在那尚未及于是之是其所是之处或在那超出了是之是其所是之处被神秘地听到了。
All things are one, that is, all things are what they are. It is thus a universal and fundamental event.
