尽管人类从空中探测地球的历史可以追溯到很远的年代,但是自从1960年“遥感”这一术语诞生之后,人们才对在远距离探测物体或现象这一过程找到了贴切的命名。嗣后,遥感研究如异军突起,猛烈地冲击着各学科的前沿。携带不同类型传感器的各种遥感平台,组成一个多层次的、立体的、多谱段的、多时相的空间探测体系,大大伸延了人类的感官功能,把地学研究中的概念逻辑思维变成直观的形象的空间模型,深化了人们对自然现象的认识。遥感技术赋予传统的地学研究方法以新的生命。
