大道尔吉超镁铁质岩体位于祁连中间地块西端南缘沙果河深断裂的北侧。属于被肢解的蛇绿岩残片,由地幔橄榄岩和堆晶杂岩带组成。其中赋存的铬铁矿床普遍含有铂族元素,铂族元素的总量在富矿中平均为0.306×10-6,贫矿中平均为0.149×10-6。铂族元素的含量与矿石中Cr2O3的含量呈正消长关系,铬铁矿体即是铂族元素的矿化体。铂族元素的配比关系各类矿石平均为Ru:Os。Ir=17.1:10:2.2。为钌型铬铁矿床。铬尖晶石的成分特征是铂族元素矿化类型的重要识别标志。
