建立正确的造山运动学说是地质科学的最终目标之一。从经典的地槽说到板块说,尽管造山运动的理论基础发生了变化,但是野外地质学家的工作始终没有改变,仍然是要解释各种地质体是何时、何地、怎样形成和发展成目前状态的问题。日本列岛及其周围具备有笔者所称的造山带三要素——碰撞地质体、俯冲附加体(附加三角棱柱体accretion prism)和平推构造带,这些地质体和地质构造,现在还在按某种程序进行活动。可以说,这里是研究古往今来造山运动实质的最重要场所之一。
Establishing the correct orogeny doctrine is one of the ultimate goals of geosciences.
