怀素草书的文化精神,没有人研究过,从历史的角度探讨怀素草书的文化精神之源很有必要。一是从怀素籍贯姓氏说起,把吴兴钱氏同佛教的关系作为怀素书法的第一源泉,又从六朝以来东南一带尚书风气盛行的客观事实出发,认为这种尚书乡风是怀素书法文化精神的又一源泉;佛教与书风盛行,是僧人书法形成和发展的文化前提和基础,而怀素的文化之根就是扎在僧人书法极盛的吴兴,吴兴僧人书法盛行是怀素书法文化精神的第三源泉。
