心与物,是中国哲学的基本问题,绘画亦然。所谓“外师造化,中得心源”是也。要参透心与物的关系,以生命情怀灌注其中,物与神游,却殊非易事。学问不深厚、器识不宏旷,恐难成就,而没有与生俱来的脱俗与家学渊源的凝练,也不易融通。难得宋玉明先生,左右逢源,才有今日之成就。宋家山水,从新金陵画派代表人物宋文治先生那里始现端倪,20世纪60年代,宋文治与傅抱石、钱松嵒、亚明、魏紫熙、陈之佛等开创新金陵画派,影响了整个中国画坛,可以说当代的山水画家或多或少都留有宋氏山水的痕迹,宋文治先生清新文雅的风格,包括晚年的泼彩泼墨作品,影响了很多后来的艺术家。
