An English lighthouse engineer,Richard Henry Bruntoii(1841-1901)is memorized as “Father of Japanese Lighthouse”.After he was engaged in lighthouse constructions required by the treaty powers,he was hired as an engineer by the Japanese government in the Meiji era from 1868 to 1876.He built the Inubosaki lighthouse at Choshi,Chiba,Japan in 1874,which is famous as beautiful shape and now still working During eight years in Japan,he constructed a number of lighthouses and built a network of modern lighthouses for Japan.In this paper,the authors described the detail of the Choshi lighthouse,its background,and the lighthouse works by foreign engineers hired by the Japanese government in the Meiji era.
