1790年,徽班进京,庆高宗乾隆八十寿辰,至今已经222年了。徽班本是徽商的有机组成部分,而且班中人才济济,宽容博纳,也很有徽商气质。说起来,徽班实际上算是徽商伸向朝廷的触角,而探触信息效果之佳,可谓空前。徽商更重视政治、商业情报系统,故此红顶商人胡雪岩与浙江巡抚王有龄惺惺相惜,与左宗棠风云际会。但很可惜最后被洋人摆了一道,即便他在意大利等国派驻间谍,也只能延缓自己破产过程而已,这也是大势所趋,国弱则商败,不得不然。
