解放初期,我省无制药工业。1958年后建立了青海省东风制药厂和西宁制药厂,主要为制剂加工,仅配制一般酊、流、油、膏剂和片剂,没有生产原料产品。1966年后,制药工作有了很大的发展。目前,全省共有中西(生化)药制药厂11个(省办二厂、州办五厂、县办二厂、肉联二厂、卫办一厂),其中4个药厂设有较先进的机械化设备,其它的厂则为半机械化设备,制药技术职工共有1.4千余人。
