Denmark, Singapore, the United States, Japan, Germany, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom occupied the fourth to tenth place in the competitiveness rankings respectively. However, the United States has become the country with the most obvious decline, ranking sixth from last year. Switzerland’s global competitiveness ranks first in the rankings, reflecting the country’s robust institutional makeup, sound infrastructure, efficient markets and a high level of technological innovation. Switzerland has a well-developed infrastructure for scientific research. The company invests heavily in R & D and the protection of intellectual property is strong. The public institutions in the country are transparent and stable.
