J.Stacey et al. At the U.S. Geological Survey have developed a new mass spectrometer that precisely measures argon isotope ratios. It uses the ion optical system with Z-focusing performance, designs the five-ion ion receiver and introduces the computer technology to make it have the advantages of high ion current transmission rate and fast and precise isotope ratio measurement. It is suitable for geochronology Ar isotope ratio analysis of ~ (38) Ar isotope dilution method and ~ (40) Ar / ~ (39) Ar fast neutron activation method. The instrument analyzed 1,500 samples from May 1977 to November 1978. The Canadian Journal of Earth Science will report the results of its use for argon isotope analysis. Although the instrument is designed for argon analysis, it can be used for other elements after proper modification.
