前人早就注意到“二王”在书法艺术上的差异之大,有过许多评论,其中最深刻的莫过于虞斂“父子之间,又为今古”的评价。所谓“今古”是指明“古质今妍”之别,以“古今”时间之差,表示艺术特征差异程度之大。他说:古质而今妍,数之常也;爱妍而薄质,人之情也。锺张方之二王可谓古矣,得无妍质之珠。……父子之间,又为今古,子敬穷其妍妙,固其宜也。(《论书表》)
The predecessors have long noticed that there are many comments about the great differences in the art of calligraphy between the two wangs.
