Studying ancient coins has existed for thousands of years in China, but it has been almost two decades since numismatics was advocated as a discipline to study. In the past two decades, the study of numismatics has drawn lessons from the research methods of history and archeology, and even used the methods of scientific analysis such as chemistry and physics to make gratifying achievements. However, we must also see that there is still much work to be done in the discipline construction of numismatics. Any independent discipline, in addition to have their own unique research object, but also must have its own unique method of research, numismatics as well. The method of versioning is unique to numismatics. However, in the case of complicated Song and money studies, there is still a lack of deep understanding of the exact meaning represented by the version and the standard of the version. The German scholar Mr. Bouviene spent his life studying coins in the Qing Dynasty. He compiled a large amount of coinage in the Qing Dynasty. Even more commendable was that he consulted a large amount of documents and materials, especially the large amount of money bureau reports in the Qing dynasty archives, A large number of reliable first-hand information, he proposed the Qing Dynasty coins version of the views of different years, and accordingly drained a Qing chronology. Regardless of whether Mr. Bouviner’s conclusion is completely correct or not, there is still room for improvement. His research method deserves our attention and reference. To this end, we compiled this article of Mr. Bouviner, introducing his research methods and achievements to colleagues in the numismatic community with a view to promoting numismatic research and discipline construction.
