自近代以降,社会达尔文主义的线性历史观促使了进步的历史观念的形成。在中国革命战争年代,历史进步论与革命伦理融合在一起,呈现出不断革命便不断进步、向前的美好图景,由此也催生出一种社会性的进步信仰。延安时期,浓郁的革命情结以及对于进步的信仰催发丁玲往往以“进步”为尺度来观照革命的进程,她在其时的文学创作便流溢出进步的眼光和标准;在延安整风运动遭遇批判之后的自我归趋与认同也是其在政治的框架和进步的视界之下的自我确认的表露。之后,她渐趋归依于群体强力和权力意志之中。
