地层学是地质学中既古老而又极富活力的学科,从理性地层学的诞生至今已有300余年的历史,地层学知识和内涵积淀深厚,各种观念和思想发展迅速、交替明显。由龚一鸣和张克信教授领衔主编、中国地质大学出版社出版的《地层学基础与前沿》一书,从历史的角度并站在现代地球科学的前沿,全面、系统地论述了地层学及其分支学科的主要概念、内容和方法,是一部继往开来、承上启下的好书,其特征可概括为两方面:
