一、工具书的作用与重要性 高校图书馆为保证教学与科学研究及其成果推广的需要,有计划地采购各类专业书刊的同时,也购入大量工具书。有的院校工具书已成为馆藏建设的重要组成部分。工具书是开启知识宝库的钥匙,古往今来,各国的教育与科技部门都十分重视工具书的编辑与出版。它的功用是极为广泛的。现代工具书种类很多,就其性质来分,大体上有两大类,一是文献检索工具,即查找文献用的工具书;一种是解答性工具书或资料性工具书,通称其为参考工具书。总起来讲都是检索工具。检索工具书功用很多,归纳起来有以下五方面。
