The Journal of the American Medical Association, Vol. 246, No. 1, (1981) reports that a study of the distribution of malignant polyps shows that polyps on the left side of the colon are more likely to become cancerous. Michael F Appel, an assistant clinical professor of surgery at Baylor University School of Medicine in Houston, studied the 1,226 polyps removed by 697 patients between 1973 and 1980 and came to this conclusion. He reported his findings at the photo publicity meeting of the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy in New York. He said: "The location of polyps is generally consistent with the general report distribution, that is, 52% in the sigmoid colon, 20% in the descending colon, 16% in the transverse colon, and 13% in the ascending colon and cecum. But polyps with new organisms The distribution is different.
