In this study, 167 patients were randomized to caffeine and ephedrine (90,192 mg daily) or placebo for 6 months. The patient can have a normal diet, but limit daily intake of fat to 30% of the calories required and exercise moderately (walking) three times a week for 30 minutes a day.
