老促会是党委和政府联系老区人民群众的重要桥梁,也是得力的参谋助手,推进了老区建设。上述这一段话,是中共中央政治局委员、广东省委书记李长春4月29日在省老促会四届二次理事会上,听取了罗天理事长的工作报告后,对老促会十年来的工作所作的高度评价。原广东省委书记任仲夷曾以精辟的语言概括老同志当年参加革命时的理想:把奴隶变成主人,把穷人变成富人,老同志不论在职或已离退休,都一直为实践这一理想而奋斗不已。他们目睹不少老区还处于贫困状态,理所当然是深感不安的,要尽力为曾哺育过自己的老区人民做一些力所能及的事。老促会善于依靠有关单位,在改善老区生产生活条件和摆脱贫困方面起了促进的作用。
