In 1980, there were about 80,000 elementary schools and 30,000 middle schools in the United States. Of these, about one-fifth is private. There are about 43 million primary and middle school students in the country. The average educational cost for each elementary and middle school student is about 2,500 US dollars. American primary and secondary education has several characteristics: 1. Diversification. In the United States, because each town has its own independent education bureau, it is not subject to the control of any higher authorities, funds are self-funded, the school system is self-determined, and the length of the academic system is inconsistent. At the same time, students can skip classes after they enter school, and students are not fixed in a certain grade during class. Students can choose courses of different grades according to their intelligence and interests.
