格温多琳·布鲁克斯(Gwe ndolyn Brooks,1917—2000)是20世纪美国最重要的黑人女性诗人,她的诗歌反映了美国黑人对自由和平等的渴望,帮助我们了解在种族歧视背景下美国黑人的悲惨命运。她的诗前期格律工整,后期虽以自由诗为主,但在内容上却更加激进与直白,用强烈的对比手法来彰显种族歧视的黑暗。本文以小诗《母亲》(“The Mo th e r”)为研究对象,通过文本细读的方法来探讨对比、反讽以及矛盾修辞的运用在表达诗歌主题方面的作用。
Gwendolyn Brooks (1917-2000) was the most important black female poet in the United States in the twentieth century. Her poems reflect the desire of Afro-Americans for freedom and equality and help us to understand how African Americans The tragic fate. Although her early verse was based on free verse, her content was more radical and straightforward, with a strong contrast to highlight the darkness of racial discrimination. This paper, based on the poem “The Mo th e r”, examines the role of contrast, irony and the use of contradictory rhetoric in expressing the theme of poetry.
