Canadian Nickel Corporation’s 35,000-ton-day production of Clarebel was commissioned in November 1971 with more automation instrumentation, current-carrying analyzers and process control computers in the design, all of which are required for efficient operation. Current-carrying analyzers provide analytical data on copper, nickel, iron, sulfur and silicon for flotation control computers every 6 to 12 minutes. Computers give reports (shifts, status quo, alerts, etc.) and control analyzers, dosing and flotation circuits. This article describes the analyzer - the computer system and its impact on plant performance.
