US time August 25, AMD and Broadcom (Broadcom) announced that the latter will acquire the AMD digital TV business for 198 million US dollars, the transaction is expected to be completed by December 31 this year. In July 2006, AMD acquired ATI for $ 5.4 billion to strengthen its strength in graphics and consumer electronics and compete fully with Intel. However, AMD finally lost its wishful thinking, after experiencing seven consecutive quarterly losses, AMD, in addition to retaining the core graphics processing unit, decisively abandoned long-term loss of digital television and mobile phone chip business, out of consumer electronics. The Broadcom access the digital television business, was named “win-win ” move: AMD can throw away the burden, while Broadcom can do large-scale. But to turn loss-making business in the hands of AMD to profit, or even increase, is not easy for Broadcom.
