20世纪50年代中期,前苏联(以下称苏联)抢在美国前面发展了自己第一代常规动力弹道导弹核潜艇G级(“高尔夫”级)。美国在忐忑不安之余,被迫将“北极星”计划提前,把正在施工的“蝎子”号攻击型核潜艇临时改装为弹道导弹核潜艇,并于1959年建成服役了“乔治·华盛顿”级弹道导弹核潜艇。
In the mid-1950s, the former Soviet Union (hereinafter referred to as the Soviet Union) grabbed the G-Class (“Golf” class) of its first-generation conventional nuclear-powered missile submarine in front of the United States. In the midst of uneasy anxiety, the United States was forced to advance its plan of “Polaris” to temporarily convert the under construction “Scorpion” attack submarine into a ballistic missile submarine and to establish a “George Washington” -class ballistic missile submarine in 1959.
