在鲁迅寓居上海期间(1927—1936)交往的各式书店中,中美图书公司是其时常走动的一家西文书店。在20世纪二三十年代上海众多的西文书店中,中美图书公司规模较大,它与别发洋行、伊文思并称为当时沪上三大西文书店。一中美图书公司最早见于1927年上海《商业名录》,其店址在当时的南京路25号。又据《1935年上海书店调查》,中美图书公司位于南京路78号,经理为美国人Mortimer,主要经营西文图书,
Of the various bookshops where Lu Xun resided in Shanghai (1927-1936), the Sino-American book company was a western bookstore where he often moved. Among the large number of Western-language bookstores in Shanghai in the 1920s and 1930s, Sino-American book companies were large in scale.
