邓小平义利观在继承毛泽东义利思想的基础上有了新的发展。邓小平要求共产党员，尤其是人民的干部要积极满足和实现人民群众的利益需要，正确处理好人民利益与个人利益的关系；鼓励人民群众去追求正当的个人利益，重视公平与效率的问题。在邓小平崇义尚利的思想中包含着丰富的辩证思想，义的存在和发展必须以一定的利为基础，义促进和指引着利的实现和发展方向，义利的实现要相互协调。邓小平义利观在我国改革开放和现代化建设中发挥了巨大的历史作用。
