In 2007, as always, Silicon Valley has become a sacred place for innovation. The economic value added created by each employee has risen for six consecutive years. From 1997 to 2007, the per capita value added by all staff in the United States increased by a small amount from 80,000 U.S. dollars to 90,000 U.S. dollars. The per capita added value created by employees in Silicon Valley increased from 110,000 U.S. dollars to 130,000 U.S. dollars. In 2007, the Silicon Valley area increased by 2% compared with the same period of last year, the United States increased by 1.4% compared with the same period of last year. Silicon Valley’s patent activity, venture capital investment in environmental technology is still very active, far ahead of the world. After the outbreak of the financial crisis in 2008, people all thought that Silicon Valley could escape the impact of the financial crisis in the United States, but in fact from November 2008 the crisis hit Silicon Valley. Throughout 2008, only two companies across the Silicon Valley were doing initial public offerings. In December, job opportunities in Silicon Valley shrank by 1.3% over the same period of the previous year, marking the first decline since 2005. In addition, the per capita income of Silicon Valley in 2008 also decreased by 0.8%, the first decline since 2003. In view of the 0.2% increase in per capita income in the United States over the same period, this is the first time in many years that the per capita income growth in the Silicon Valley has fallen below the national growth rate.
