In the recent partial wars over the past decade, U.S. military satellites have played an important role in supporting U.S. ground operations. During the Gulf War, more than 70 satellites in the United States formed reconnaissance and surveillance, intelligence and communications, navigation and positioning and weather protection systems over the gulf. The U.S. military called it “the first space war.” During the Kosovo war, NATO deployed more than 50 satellites to participate in intelligence, meteorological support, communications, combat synergies and air strikes over the Balkans. In the anti-terrorism operations in Afghanistan, the United States also has dozens of military satellites involved, forming a battlefield space reconnaissance support system. In particular, satellite broadband communications have shown their full value in combat operations in Afghanistan. The US military uses a satellite communications channel bandwidth equivalent to the capacity required by 200,000 simultaneous telephones. The B-52 heavy-duty
