In 1943, the British Institute of Physics (NPL) set up a benchmark force measuring machine of 50 tons (about 500,000 Newtons) and conducted the first high-accuracy force test. Initially, this work was almost entirely for the verification of standard dynamometers for testing material testing machines. However, due to the continuous improvement of industrial requirements, dynamometers have been used in many scientific and engineering fields.
