The Verazza Strait Bridge across the Strait at the entrance to New York Harbor was constructed by the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority. In order to keep the transit traffic away from the congested central part of the city, a southbound route was opened up. Wooden bridge is an important link on the line. The bridge is arranged as a double decker bridge with six lanes each. The upper decks will be used first, while the lower decks will be left open for transport when needed. The estimated traffic for the first year of operation is 12.6 million vehicles, with a maximum capacity of 45 million vehicles estimated annually. Bridge funds raised by the Authority for sale of 3 billion U.S. dollars in bonds. No city or state tax or credit is used. The estimated total cost of the bridge is 305 million U.S. dollars.
