铁道部提供的数据显示,2009年,全国铁路旅客发送量完成15.25亿人,同比增加6321万人,增长4.3%;货物发送量完成33.20亿吨,同比增加6113万吨,增长1.9%,两个数字均创下历史新高。在客货大幅增长的同时,铁路节能减排工作取得新的成效,单位运输工作量综合能耗、化学需氧量、二氧化硫排放量同比分别下降4.8%、2.0%、5.2%。
