同步带传动是借助同步带齿与带轮齿依次啮合来传递动力和运动的,从而达到同步传动的目的,见图1。因此,要使主动带轮的速度正确传给从动轮,就要带的节距等于带轮节距。但由于同步带属弹性体,在制造和运转中带的节距会有变化,造成带与轮的节距不一致,即产生节距误差。过大的节距误差会使传动不平稳、爬齿等现象,而无法达到同步传动的要求。同时也会导致同步带过早损坏。因此,控制带与带轮间的节距误差是保证同步带传动正常工作极为重要的条件。
