The PILOT data processor is a high-speed, multi-computer system that is more than 100 times faster than SEAC computers. The system consists of three interconnected computers for high-speed data processing and several conditional input-output channels for fast data transfer. These parts are operated in coordination with each other. This article outlines the system’s logical architecture design, which includes the main features of the three computers, internal and external controls. The PILOT system unites fast and diverse internal data processing with very flexible external delivery. Therefore, an operator or other automated device can manipulate the interior of the machine.
