The world’s first submarine railway tunnel linking Europe and Asia was officially opened on October 29, 2013, connecting the Asian and European coasts of Istanbul, Turkey. The total cost is about 4.1 billion U.S. dollars, of which Japan’s investment accounts for one billion U.S. dollars. The Turkish government hopes this new passage through the Bosporus will eventually play an important business and trade role. In theory, the tunnel would make it possible to travel from London via London to Beijing by train. 1.4 km across the Strait part of the day is the 90th anniversary of the founding of Turkey National Day.
