Abstract Background Advances in the management of myocardial infarction greatly reduce morbidity and mortality. As a result, some patients will experience early mechanical complications after infarction, while others may have severe ventricular dysfunction. In addition, many patients carry a significant burden of legacy coronary artery disease that accounts for the viability of functional ischemic status and / or suspected myocardial ischemia. Conclusions Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) shows its unparalleled advantage in assessing cardiac function, stress load testing, and myocardial tissue characterization.
