上世纪八十年代中后期,是内地流行音乐崛起的时期,随着乐坛“西北风”的兴起,不同地域、不同民族的歌手都希望通过借助流行音乐这一特殊的文化样式对自身的民族现状与民族命运做出重新的思考与认识。创作上的日益成熟,风格的多元化发展使得这一时期的流行音乐逐渐体现出浓郁的本土特色。而毕业于天津音乐学院理论作曲专业的腾格尔给流行乐坛带来了蒙古人的新形象。
