刘重德曾经指出“经无达诂”和“译无定法”是经书翻译工作中天然存在的两大特点。该文拟从这八字入手,分析和解释《论语》英译之多样化,并进一步指出“经无达诂”和“译无定法”事实上涉及的是翻译过程中理解和表达两个层次的问题。正是理解的“无达诂”和表达的“无定法”造成了《论语》英译的多样化,隐藏在其中更深层次的原因则是译者主观能动性的发挥。
Liu Chongde once pointed out that “translating” and “translating indefinitely” are two natural characteristics of the translation of Scripture. The article intends to start from this character, analyze and explain the diversification of the English translation of The Analects of Confucius, and further point out that “translating” and “translating indefinitely” actually involve the understanding and expression in the translating process Two levels of questions. It is the understanding that “non-attainment” and “indefinite law” of expression cause the diversification of the English translation of The Analects. The deeper reason for this is the translator’s subjective initiative.
